4JB1-T is now in the engine room...

Some friends asked me if 4Jb1-T engine is really fit in the Land rover series, well.. I can say YES to that question, actually the dimension of 4jb1T and the original engine is not much different, and the weight is also almost the same. look at the picture below, as you see it nicely fit to the engine room. I think you still can maintain the look of land rover series. Mine is already modified to defender style by the previous owner



But the problem that have not been sorted out till now is the rear output shaft, as you can see in the below picture, the output is exactly in the middle while original land rover is in the lower right, so I can not use the standard axle without some modification. It seems won't be a problem for the long wheel base though...

BMW X5 VS Land rover series

I always curious about new 4x4 cars, despite their very high price, is the cost justify the performance in the real off road situation? I rarely or almost "never" see a brand new expensive car to be use in off road, they mostly lived in urban area where they not suppose to be around. anyway I found this video, it shows that (very expensive) BMW X5 outperformed by land rover series which I am sure cost only a small fraction of the BMW... quite funny enjoy...

Shock absorber for Series landy

For those who replaced their original leaf spring in the series land rover with the parabolic one, you might have to change your dampers (shock breaker / absorber) as well, why...? because oil based dampers (which usually in the original series lad rover) will not cope with the parabolic spring. It will heated in around 10 minutes and loose the damping effect, it will be quite dangerous in the "critical" journey. But there is also what so called "uprated" oil based shock breaker that OK for parabolic spring though... but I recommend the gas (usually nitrogen) based shock absorber.

Now what dampers is suitable for the series land rover with parabolic spring? the answer is Many... but I have 2 brands in mind which are Old Man Emu (OME) and Pro Comp. actually I bought one of the brand and quite satisfied with it.
