- Do you want 5th gear on your series...?
- Do you want more torque and power from your series...?
- Do you want modern diesel engine (say 300tdi) in your series?
- Do you want more efficient engine ( km / liter figure)?
- Do you stole a series body?
If most of the answer is yes, you probably need to convert your old engine with something else. The above reasons (except the last one of course) actually make me want to change the original engine to a diesel engine. Now which engine is suitable for landy series... the answer is almost all... depend on how complexity you want to be involved.
After not much of a though...actually based on some recommendation from other landy owner, I bought 4JB1-T which after few research I found the spec as follows
| Engine Number of cylinders Cubic Capacity Bore x Stroke Max Power (SAE J1995) Max Torque Combustion System Idle speed Minimum SFC Lubricating Oil Capacity Electrical system Minimum Idling Speed Dry Weight(bare engine) Starter Motor Power | Isuzu 4JB1T 4 cylinders, In-Line 2771 cm3 93 x 102 mm 60 kW @ 3000 r/min 230 Nm @ 2000r/min Direct Injection 850 r/min 226 g/kWhr 8.0 litres 12 Volt 800 r/min 240 kg 2.2 kW |
The above spec however is for 4jb1T (without intercooler). while the engine that I bought is with intercooler (click the picture above for bigger one)... hence the engine is more powerful than the spec below. In this web they said that the HP for 4jb1T with intercooler is 115
Now let's compare with the land rover original engine that I stole from TerryAnn Wakeman with the following spec... although not apple to apple... it is more or less equal to 2.500 cc petrol or turbo diesel from Land Rover engine.. or if the Hp is 115 like this website claimed , it may be equal to 300TDI

Using diesel really is quite efficient and relatively low on emissions, especially the new release engines that meet the EU standards. We sell parts and engines for vehicles of this size and bigger. If you need any advice please feel free to contact www.minardsdiesel.com we export around the world.
hey guys,

From your local engine "waste" importer... they usually import engine from other country that have strict emission law... if you are in those country than probably you need to visit local junk yard and hope that they have abandoned Isuzu trooper.. :-)
